SAA Essentials Compliance Training

On the 23rd of August 2024 the AS / NZS 4777.1:2024 was published. On the 23rd of February 2025 every State and Territory Government in Australia is recognising this standard as the official  requirement for the installation of solar power throughout the country.

As a result Solar Accreditation Australia has announced that it requires a minimum level of knowledge of this standard by all accredited installers. More information can be found at their website.

The following Frequently Asked Questions are based on questions the Smart Energy Council has received about how to access training to meet these compliance requirements.

On 23rd August 2024 Standards Australia the AS/NZS 4777.1:2024 Grid connection of energy systems via inverters, Part 1: Installation requirements.

Solar Accreditation Australia as the accrediting authority determined that as a part of the Accreditation scheme it was necessary for all accredited installers to have a minimum level of knowledge associated with the requirements of the new standard.

An update from SAA published on the  afternoon of Wednesday, 12th February 2025 now recognises the Smart Energy Councils 6 part series 'SEC - AS / NZS 4777.1:2024 Part 1-6 as meeting the requirements for the mandatory training compliance.

The Smart Energy Council has been offering these modules since 28th August 2024.

These modules are available FREE to participants of the Smart Energy Councils Smart Installer program.

They are also available to our member base who have a current paid membership with the council.

All 6 of these free SEC modules must be completed to meet the compliance requirements.

The Smart Energy Councils 'SEC - AS/NZS 4777.1:2024 Parts 1 - 6' series of modules offer the following:

  • FREE Access to these and other training modules for Smart Installer participants and paid Smart Energy Council members
  • Compliance with the SAA mandatory training requirements
  • 15 CPD points for each of these 6 modules for a total of 90 CPD points
  • A downloadable certificate of completion to show proof of completion of the material

The first thing to do is make sure you have signed up to the Smart Installer program or are a paid member of the Smart Energy Council.

Once you are a paid member or a Smart Installer you can visit the main page of the Smart Energy Council website.

Click on the Smart Portal Login link at the top right corner of the page.

Once you have logged into the SECs Smart Portal simply click the CPD Training item in the main menu at the top of the page.

This will log you into the Smart Installer Institute where you have access to a variety of accredited training courses including the 6 Part modules that meet Solar Accreditation Australia's mandatory training requirements.

The first time you log into the Smart Installer Institute you will be asked to confirm some details.

We collect this information in order to be able to offer better services to our accredited installers.

Once you have confirmed your information you will be taken to the catalogue page of our learning platform.

In the Search Bar beneath the heading Explore your learning options type the name of the course you are looking for.

The approved 6 modules are titled:

SEC - AS / NZS 4777.1: 2024 Part 1-6.

They can be seen in the image below.

Click Enrol and you will be taken to the course landing page where you can then click the Start Now button.

You can navigate using the blue navigation button in the top right corner.

You will need to complete each module before being able to move to the next module of the course.

Once the final part of each module of SEC - AS / NZS 4777.1:2024 pPart 1-6 have been completed in the Smart Installer Institute learning platform, a pop-up will appear with a link to download your certificate that will expire after 15 minutes.

That link will allow you to download your certificate of completion immediately upon completion.

You will need to submit all 6 of these certificates to Solar Accreditation Australia in order to get your compliance with their requirements recognised. This can be done in accordance with the SAA submission process.

If you have lost track of your certificate you can download it from the platform at any time.

When you are logged into the learning platform you can easily find the certificate for a specific course by going to the My Learning tab in the top menu.

Select the course you want that has the  Passed tag

Smart Installer Institute

The Smart Installer Institute is the Smart Energy Councils learning management system available to paid members and participants in the Smart Installer program.

The following are frequently questions that will aid you in navigating how to use this platform. 

For paid members and Smart Installers the Smart Installer Institute is easily accessed through the SECs Smart Portal.

Navigate to the Smart Energy Council website click the Smart Portal Login link at the top right corner of the page and login using your credentials your member or smart installer credentials.

General FAQs

In order to obtain Australian and New Zealand Standards you will need to purchase them.

They can be found at the Standards New Zealand Website at the following link.

Paid members and registered Smart Installers can find their Help & FAQs on the top right corner of the menu inside their smart portal dashboard.

You can change the primary account holder for your membership on the Membership tab inside the portal. This option is available for corporate memberships.
When you set another team member as an account member they will be able to make changes to your Business listing from the Business Listing Tab in the members area of the portal.

In the header at the top of this page click the Members Login link. This will open the login page for the membership portal in a new tab and you can login there.

You can change your password by clicking on the Forgot Your Password link on the members portal login page.

Just click the Members Login link at the top right hand side of this page.

When you set another team member as an ‘Account Manager’ they will be able to invite new team members and remove members (and edit your companies directory listing).

This can be done from the Teams page inside the membership portal by Account Managers or the Primary Account Holder.

Submit a Question
